Wipes Bridged at a Fitting
So-called flushable wipes clear the toilet and knot at the first grade change. A cable breaks the mass up and pulls it back.

OUR SERVICES
Cable machine and auger service for Ankeny drains. The right machine for the line, a camera pass afterward, and a straight answer about what caused it.
OVERVIEW
Ankeny is the newest housing stock in our service area, with a median build year around 2006, and that changes what a cable machine is actually pulling out. Instead of the roots we cut out of older clay laterals elsewhere in the metro, Ankeny augering is mostly about solid obstructions: wipes bridged at a fitting, hygiene products, toys, and construction debris left behind during the build.
Those are exactly the blockages a cable handles well. What a cable does not handle is a coating, so when the camera shows a kitchen line glazed with grease we will tell you a jetter is the right call rather than booking you for the same auger job again next quarter.
All work is performed in compliance with the 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code as adopted by the State of Iowa.

WHEN A CABLE IS THE RIGHT TOOL
Cabling solves obstruction problems. Here is where it applies in newer pipe.
So-called flushable wipes clear the toilet and knot at the first grade change. A cable breaks the mass up and pulls it back.
Grout, mortar, and drywall mud rinsed down a drain during a build set up hard. A cutting head is often the only way through.
Toys, brushes, and the occasional phone. A cable retrieves or breaks it, where a jetter would only drive it deeper.
A closet auger reaches through the trapway without scratching porcelain, and it beats repeated plunging every time.
That is a branch line job. A small drum machine handles it without touching the main.
Flow has to be restored before anything else can be assessed. Cable first, camera second.
AUGER AND CABLE SERVICES
Every drain in the building, plus the lateral out to the city sewer.
The private line from your home to the city main. In Ankeny the usual find is wipes rather than roots.
A closet auger clears the trapway cleanly, then we confirm the flange and wax seal survived the blockage.
Cabling works where the grease is light. Where the camera shows a glazed pipe wall we will recommend jetting instead.
Small drum machines extract hair mats from the trap arm rather than pushing them into the branch.
Lint and detergent film narrow a standpipe until the washer overflows. A cable clears it in minutes.
Homes and additions where the drains were used as a rinse point during the build, and the residue set up inside the pipe.
WHY CLOG BUSTERS
Right machine, right head, camera afterward, permit if the job needs one.
Fixture, branch, or main. Each calls for a different cable diameter, and an undersized cable in a main line either misses the blockage or lodges.
Retrieval heads for objects, cutting heads for compacted debris, grease heads where cabling is the only access available.
We pass the blockage several times rather than punching a single hole through it and declaring the line clear.
A recorded pass confirms the result. Where the job crosses into building sewer work, Ankeny requires a permit and a State of Iowa licensed contractor to pull it.
Full volume down the line, then the work area goes back the way we found it.
FAQ

Because pipe age is not the issue. Median build year here is around 2006, so the pipe is sound PVC. What blocks it is wipes, hygiene products, toys, and construction debris left inside the line during the build.
A cable is for obstructions and roots. A jetter is for coatings, meaning grease, sludge, and scale. Cabling a greased line bores a channel that closes again within months, so we tell you which one the camera says you need.
Not for routine drain cleaning. For building sewer work, Ankeny requires a permit through Development Services, and the city will only issue it to a contractor holding a State of Iowa license.
An oversized or badly handled one can. That is why we match cable diameter to line size and camera the run afterward instead of assuming it went well.
Yes. They pass the toilet intact and stop at the first fitting or grade change. In homes of Ankeny vintage they are the most common thing we pull out of a main line.
Not to auger. We work through an existing cleanout. Excavation only comes up if the camera shows a break or a collapse that cabling cannot reach.
The private lateral from your home to the city main is the property owner responsibility. The city wastewater utility maintains the mains and lift stations.
About a ten mile run and we operate 24 hours, so same-day is normal and a completely stopped main is treated as a priority.
