Drain Cleaning
A kitchen line in a 1960s Urbandale house may have carried grease for sixty years. We clear it from the fixture or a cleanout and check whether old iron is narrowing the flow.

URBANDALE, IOWA
Clog Busters clears drains and repairs sewer lines for Urbandale homes and businesses from our Des Moines branch, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Urbandale began as a streetcar suburb and boomed after World War II, so its older east side and newer west side fail in different ways. We camera the line before we quote a repair.

WHY URBANDALE LINES FAIL
Urbandale’s drain and sewer problems follow its building booms: the city grew from 1,777 residents in 1950 to 14,434 in 1970, so a large share of its homes carry piping that is now more than half a century old. According to the city’s history of Urbandale, it was incorporated on April 16, 1917, as a streetcar suburb of Des Moines. The line’s old turnaround at 70th Street and Roseland Drive is now Trolley Park, and the blocks around it hold some of the oldest plumbing in town.
The 2010 Census counted 39,463 people, and the city now describes itself as home to more than 45,500 residents, at the junction of Interstate 35, Interstate 80 and Iowa Highway 141. That spread produces three kinds of calls:
Ground water adds pressure. The city’s creek and stream program places most of Urbandale in the Walnut Creek watershed, with the northeast corner draining to Beaver Creek, and notes that high rainfall in 2025 eroded creek channels in Days Run Open Space. Long wet spells soak the soil around foundations and laterals, which is when slow floor drains and busy sump pumps fill our schedule.
We camera every Urbandale sewer line before quoting. A rooted line can usually be cleaned, while a cracked, sagging or collapsed one gets repair or replacement options, trenchless where the pipe allows. Iowa plumbing work follows the 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code, in effect since March 26, 2025.
Owner Jarod Smith founded Clog Busters in 2020. Our Des Moines branch at 3950 Vandalia Rd serves Urbandale and the wider Des Moines metro. See our sewer services in Urbandale and Urbandale drain camera inspections, or schedule service in Urbandale.
URBANDALE SERVICES
A kitchen line in a 1960s Urbandale house may have carried grease for sixty years. We clear it from the fixture or a cleanout and check whether old iron is narrowing the flow.
Learn moreLeaking basement floor drains, cracked trap arms and rusted iron stacks are common fixes in east side homes from the boom years. We replace the failed section only.
Learn moreA drain auger is a spinning steel cable that cuts through hair, wipes and root tips. It opens a blocked sink, tub or toilet, or a rooted main so a camera can pass.
Learn moreA camera inspection is a video of the inside of a drain or sewer line. Here it tells a rooted east side clay line from a sagging west side plastic one, and you see the footage first.
Learn moreA transmitter in the camera head lets us mark a drain's route and depth from above. Digging stays in one spot, under a finished basement or a newer backyard.
Learn moreHigh-pressure water scrubs grease and roots from sound pipe. Restaurants along 86th Street, 100th Street and Douglas Avenue can book grease line jetting. We camera first.
Learn moreCleaning, camera inspection, repair and replacement of the building sewer between an Urbandale home and the public main. Replacement is trenchless where the pipe allows.
Learn moreBefore anyone digs, we trace the sewer from the house toward the street and mark its path, under the driveway, lawn and trees planted when the street was new.
Learn moreA plumbing inspection checks the supply piping, drains, water heater and any exposed lines. Buyers of an Urbandale house from the 1950s or 1960s should add a sewer camera.
Learn moreDripping supply lines, stuck shutoff valves, running toilets and worn faucets. We find a leak before cutting, so drywall comes out only where the water is.
Learn moreA pipe split by a January cold snap or sewage at a floor drain after a storm will not wait. Our Des Moines crew takes Urbandale emergencies around the clock, every day of the week.
Learn moreNo hot water, a leaking tank or a pilot light that keeps going out. We repair gas and electric units, replace tanks past saving and install new ones to Iowa code.
