PLUMBING INSPECTIONS
Sewer camera inspections and whole-house plumbing checks for Oskaloosa buyers, owners and landlords, sent out from our shop on North C Street, with the recording and a written summary left with you.
OVERVIEW
A plumbing inspection is a documented look at the pipes and equipment in a building: a recorded camera run through the sewer line, plus a check of fixtures, drains, the water supply, the water heater and the venting you can see. We at Clog Busters send that work out of our 212 North C Street shop to homes, rentals and commercial buildings across Oskaloosa, University Park, Keomah Village, Beacon, Eddyville, Evans, Lacey and Leighton.
The incoming water line deserves as much attention as the drains. The Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department’s 2026 Consumer Confidence Report says lead in drinking water comes mainly from service lines and home plumbing, which the utility cannot control, and that the department has completed a service line inventory. Its 2025 tap sampling reported lead at 1.3 parts per billion, under the federal action level of 15, with individual results ranging from none detected up to 8. The department’s own FAQ places the stop box and the service line between the house and the main on the homeowner.
Because the owner carries that line, its material is worth identifying before you buy or renovate. Read more about our plumbing inspection services and our Oskaloosa branch, or see sewer services in Oskaloosa and water heater repair in Oskaloosa for what comes after a finding.
Inspections are measured against the 2024 Uniform Plumbing Code, in force across Iowa since March 26, 2025. Our inspection does not replace a licensed home inspection or any city inspection.

WHEN TO BOOK
The best time to inspect is before money changes hands or walls come open.
Buried sewer pipe and the incoming water service are easy to miss in a walk-through. A camera run and a supply check during your inspection window give you facts to bring to the seller.
A second or third backup on one line points to a cause in the pipe itself. A recording shows whether it is roots, a sag, scale or a break.
Once cabinets and tile go in, the drain and supply lines behind them are hard to reach. Inspect first and fix what is failing while the room is open.
Footage and notes taken while a unit sits empty record the plumbing's condition on that date, which helps when a later repair raises the question of cause.
If nobody knows whether the incoming line is copper, plastic, galvanized steel or lead, we look at the pipe where it enters the house and record what we see.
A rusting tank, a corroded relief valve discharge pipe or a vent pulling away from the flue is easier to deal with on a calm afternoon than after it fails.
INSPECTION SERVICES
For buyers, sellers, homeowners, landlords and business owners in Oskaloosa and the nearby Mahaska County towns we serve.
A recorded camera pass through the buried drain line during your purchase window, with any defect located from the surface so a seller or contractor can find it.
Every fixture run and drained, visible supply piping and shutoffs checked, the water heater and its venting looked over, and the results written up.
We record the material of the incoming service where it is exposed, check the main shutoff, and look for corroded galvanized branch lines inside the house.
A camera inspection aimed at one troublesome line, so the next step is a repair decision instead of another round of cleaning.
Drain, vent and supply lines in the rooms you plan to open, checked before demolition so surprises show up on paper first.
Unit by unit notes and footage for landlords, property managers and business owners who need a record of plumbing condition across a building.
WHY CLOG BUSTERS
Check the water side, camera the drain side, then put it in writing.
We find where the water line enters the building, record the pipe material we can see, and check the main shutoff and fixture stop valves.
Sinks, tubs, showers, toilets, the laundry and any basement floor drain are run and drained while we watch for slow flow, leaks and gurgling.
We check the tank for leaks and rust, the temperature and pressure relief valve and its discharge pipe, and the venting that is visible.
A camera goes into the building sewer from the best access point and records the run. Any fault it finds is located and marked at the surface.
You get the recording and a short written summary of what is fine, what to watch and what needs work, with no obligation to have us do any of it.
FAQ
Still stuck? Call the Oskaloosa shop at (641) 200-0136.
Usually not, unless you add one. Many general home inspections are visual and stop at what can be seen, so the buried sewer line and most of the water service go unchecked. A sewer camera inspection is booked as its own service, ideally inside your purchase inspection window. It adds to a licensed home inspection and does not replace it.
The homeowner does, from the house out to the water main. The Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department's FAQ says the homeowner is responsible for repairing the stop box and the service line between the home and the main, while the department maintains the main itself. That makes the line's age and material a buyer's concern. Our inspection records what the line is made of where it comes into the house.
The utility's 2025 sampling stayed under the federal lead action level. The Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department's 2026 Consumer Confidence Report lists lead at 1.3 parts per billion at customer taps against an action level of 15, with individual results up to 8. The report says lead comes mainly from service lines and home plumbing rather than from the treated water. It suggests testing your water if you are concerned.
Yes. The Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department states in its 2026 Consumer Confidence Report that it has completed a service line inventory. Contact the department to ask what the inventory shows for a specific address. A plumbing inspection adds what can be seen inside the house, including the pipe material at the meter and any galvanized branch lines.
Yes. Every inspection ends with a written summary and the recorded camera footage, and both are yours to keep. You can share them with a seller, a real estate agent or any contractor. The summary sorts findings into what is fine, what to watch and what needs work.
Then the summary says the system is sound. A clean result on an older Oskaloosa house is useful: it tells a buyer the plumbing is not a negotiating point and gives an owner a baseline for later. You are never obligated to buy repairs from us after an inspection.
Turnover is a practical time to do it. The Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey puts 1,799 of Oskaloosa's 4,590 occupied homes in the renter column, so a large share of local plumbing is used by tenants rather than owners. Footage and notes taken while a unit is empty record its condition on that date. They also catch slow leaks and worn fixtures before the next tenant moves in.
Yes. The whole-property check covers the tank for leaks and corrosion, the temperature and pressure relief valve and its discharge pipe, and the visible venting on a gas unit. A relief valve discharge pipe should never be capped or plugged. If the heater needs work, we can quote repair or replacement separately.
